Legendary radio DJ Bob Mabena has died, aged 51.
Mabena was the anchor of the breakfast show on Power 98.7.
“It is with deep grief and pain that we announce Power 98.7 breakfast host, Bob Mabena, passed away [yesterday] afternoon, from cardiac arrest,” said Power 98.7 management.
Atteridgeville-born Mabena became a household name in the 90s when he started broadcasting for the now defunct Radio BOP (Bophuthutswana).
“The Jammer” also worked for stations including Highveld, Metro FM and Kaya FM during his illustrious 30-year career.
He’d been hospitalised over the weekend for a chronic lung problem and was discharged on Sunday when he took a turn for the worse and passed away on returning to hospital.
