Cape Town’s shopping malls are beefing up security to make sure you are safe when you come spend your money.
Several malls contacted by the Cape Argus said they have security plans in place for the festive season to ensure shoppers are safe.
Tygervalley Centre, in Durbanville, said they usually increase security this time of year.
“We always beef up our security complement during the busy periods around this time,” Tygervalley spokesperson Laretha Blom said.
She added that the extra security measures had already kicked in when schools closed last week.
Blom advised shoppers to be extra vigilant.
“Look after your personal belongings, always keep an eye on your children and don’t leave valuables in your car,” she said.
Canal Walk - with longer trading hours kicking in a week before Christmas - will also increase security.
“All festive security procedures are in place. We do urge shoppers not to leave any of their belongings unattended,” spokesperson Vanessa Herbst said.
Cavendish Square and Table Bay Mall both declined to comment.
It’s not the first time Cape Town malls have put in extra security.
Last year some malls upgraded security following a terror threat warning issued by the United States.
This after a public call by Islamic militants for global terrorist attacks during the holy month of Ramadaan.
Larney malls in both Cape Town and Johannesburg were named as potential targets.
