A dom skollie who tried to flous cops by wearing a salaah top after a shooting is behind bars after he was caught by wakker cops.
The 22-year-old, who is allegedly a member of the Fancy Boys gang thought he had escaped detection when he changed his clothes after a shooting in Heideveld on Tuesday night.
SAPS’ Sanele Zama, says officers patrolling Heideveld where there are gang fights between the Fancy Boys and Americans spotted the skollie shortly after 7pm.
“Manenberg Crime prevention Unit were deployed in the area doing high-density patrols as the area is very tense due to ongoing rival shootings between the Americans and Fancy boys gang members,” he says.
“Shots were fired and officers were given a description of the shooter.”
Zama says officers scoured the area but could not find the shooter, but as they entered Junction Peak Road, they saw a man in a white salaah top near a well known pella pos run by the Fancy Boys.
“The property is the stronghold of the Fancy Boys gang and as they approached, he started moving away and dropped something on the floor.
“They stopped him and took him back and found that he dropped a silver .38 Special revolver on the ground containing five live rounds of ammunition.
“It was discovered that he fit the description of the shooter and had put on the salaah top over his clothes to avoid being caught while he pretended he was coming home from mosque.”
Further investigations revealed the gun was reported stolen in Goodwood.
The suspect appeared in Athlone Magistrates’ Court today.
