The son of slain Americans gang boss Jackie Lonte has handed himself over to cops after he allegedly slit his estranged girlfriend’s throat.
Emerson “ Emme” Appolis, 41, had been on the run for nearly two weeks when he realised he had nowhere to hide anymore.
On Monday, he handed himself over at the Athlone Police
Station.
This was after his photograph appeared twice in the Daily Voice and SAPS’ Crime Intelligence unit was put on the case.
He is expected to appear at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court today on a charge of attempted murder and contravening a
protection order.
HORRIFIC WOUNDS: 32-year-old ex-girlfriend
Police sources close to the investigation reveal the state and cops will be opposing his bail application.
Cops previously indicated Apollis had been charged with assault to cause grievous bodily harm, but this has now changed due to the severity of the victim’s wounds.
Police spokesperson, Mihali Majikela, confirms: “The suspect was arrested on March 16 for attempted murder and the violation of a protection order.”
Meanwhile, his 32-year-old ex, with whom he has three children, is set to undergo a brain scan this week.
The woman said Appolis had threatened to burn her with two different types of battery acid in February and that a case of domestic violence was opened with cops.
On March 4, while cleaning the kitchen, Appolis allegedly jumped through the kitchen window of her family home in Silvertown, chased her into a bedroom where he stabbed her.
She was saved after her sister ran for help.
