A SPRINGBOK child molester who gave his victim a R5 after the assault has been sentenced to 12 years in the mang.
Gerhard Pieters, a 47-year-old man from Bergsig, was found guilty of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at his home on 1 April 2023.
According to the case, the accused attempted to forcibly kiss the victim, then closed her mouth when she screamed for help.
He also touched her private parts, but she managed to run away.
Sergeant Molefi Shemane, police spokesperson says: “He sexually assaulted her and then handed her R5.
“The victim ran to her aunt’s home and reported the incident, who immediately contacted the police and subsequently the suspect was arrested.”
Bail was successfully opposed and he remained in the tjoekie until he was convicted and sentenced.
The Springbok regional court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to twelve years hardepad, of which five years were suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of any similiar offence during the period of suspension.
Additionally, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name is to be entered into the national register for sexual offenders.
The Namakwa district management applauded Detective Constable Agnes Vena of the Springbok family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit for her outstanding investigative work that led to the incarceration of the accused and justice for the victim.
Meanwhile, the local public has also given credit to the regional court prosecutor, Basil “The Jaguar” Kock.
