TRIPLE MURDER CHARGES: Craig Stanfield, 36 TRIPLE MURDER CHARGES: Craig Stanfield, 36

A relative of alleged 28s gang boss, Ralph Stanfield, wants the Cape High Court to set him free on bail while facing a triple murder charge.

Judgement on the bail appeal of Craig Stanfield, 36, is expected to be handed down tomorrow.

Stanfield was denied bail at the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court in December 2018.

Stanfield, Abraham Wilson - father of convicted killer Cameron Wilson - as well as Lorenzo Macoba and Fabian Botha were charged with murder of gospel singer Wilton Fredericks, 31, and two other men in June 2017 in Ferel Street, Bishop Lavis.

Cameron Wilson received four life terms plus 71 years after he was convicted of 13 charges which included five murders, one rape and three attempted murders.

One of his victims was Lekita Moore, 18.

On Monday, State prosecutor Quintin Appels said Stanfield had been convicted of the possession of a firearm, possibly an R5 or AK47 rifle in February 2014, and had received a five-year sentence, of which two years were suspended.

He served 18 months behind bars and had been nabbed for the triple murder in October 2017 during the period of the suspension.

Appels said Stanfield was allegedly a member of the 28s and that they had been fighting an opposing group within the gang.

“The accused has not shown exceptional circumstances to be released,” Appels said.

The men’s case continues in April at the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's Court.

Stanfield is the cousin of alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield and is also related to Colin Stanfield, who died in 2004, and was believed to be one of the biggest drug dealers at the time in the Western Cape.
