Police are seeking assistance in identifying the body of a man found at Rocklands Rugby Field in Mitchells Plain on Sunday.
Security guards who work at the hall on the field say they were reporting for duty around 6am when the body was found.
The man, said to be in his 30s, was lying face down with his black jeans pulled down to his knees, and a cord around his neck.
He had also been stabbed.
Curious residents at the scene tried to identify the man but no one knew him.
A security guard said: “We arrived here and saw the man lying here, he seemed to have been dumped here.
“It looks like he was strangled because he had a cord around his neck.
“He couldn’t have laid here long and was probably dumped in the early morning hours.”
Police Spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the case and says: “On Sunday at 6.10am, Mitchells Plain SAPS members responded to a complaint of murder at Rocklands Rugby Field where they found the body of a unknown male lying next to the road.
“He was strangled with an electric cord and had three stab wounds to his back.
“The deceased, estimated to be 30 years old, was dressed in black jeans and white sweater with a pair of green Jordan 23 shoes.
“No identification was found on the victim. Police have opened a murder investigation. No persons have been arrested.”
