Another taxi owner was shot and killed, this time at the Kayamandi Taxi Rank in Stellenbosch. The man was shot inside his silver grey Toyota Fortuner on Tuesday afternoon.
The injured man tried to drive away, but the car overturned and he passed away on the scene.
Police say the incident occurred at about 2.30pm in Masithandane Street, at the Kayamandi Taxi Rank.
According to a police source, taxi boss Bonisile Machanyana, 32, was on his way to buy a meal when two masked men approached and fired shots at him.
“He is a taxi owner in Kraaifontein, associated with Bluwata taxis but he is affiliated to Cata taxis,” says the source.
“He came to Kayamandi to buy food when two unknown males approached him wearing blue overalls and masks. They started shooting at him, they fired about 10 shots.”
The shooting happened a day after Codeta taxi owner and undertaker, Pastor Zukile Ntenda, 65, was killed in Gugulethu.
It is alleged he was lured under the pretext of collecting a body when ambushed.
The police source claims Bonisile was implicated in the Bellville taxi shooting that left two people dead on 16 February.
Cata spokesperson Andile Seyamo says not every taxi shooting is about taxi violence.
“It could be a conflict between two people. We have not heard about the shooting.
“I do not know why you guys rush to us whenever there is a taxi shooting. The police are the right people to call.”
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the incident and says a case of murder has been opened by Stellenbosch Police with no arrests yet.
