A teenage soccer fan was left with a punctured lung after he was stabbed by four youngsters on Sunday morning.
Tevin Keyster, 16, was at a soccer field along Ryston Road, Hanover Park when he was attacked by people who are known to him.
One of the organisers of the Sunday league Nazeem Hendricks says: “I had my back to the boy but I just heard someone shout that they shouldn’t come and make trouble here. And then when I turned around, Tevin said they stabbed him.
“He was rushed to the hospital and the suspects casually walked away from the scene.”
The victim’s mom Lynette Keyster says Tevin was gone for about 30 minutes before someone called her to inform her of the incident.
“When I got to the field I was told that one of the coaches had already taken him to the Day Hospital.
“I rushed there and when I saw him, his eyes were closed and I saw the wound in the left side of his chest.”
The devastated vrou says when her son woke up, he named his stabbers.
“He named his attackers and I also asked him to pray, he kept saying: ‘I love you mom’.
“I think he was scared, like I was.
“The doctor transferred him to Groote Schuur to assess the damage in the lung and he had to go for the X-Ray.
“I am just happy that one of the suspects was caught by the community.
“We do not know why they attacked him, but they are always chasing our kids from Newfields Village here.”
SAPS’ Captain FC van Wyk says Philippi Police are investigating a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
“A 15-year-old was stabbed and a 19 year old suspect arrested,” he says.
“Once charged, the suspect will appear in court.”
