A gun runner for suspected drug kingpin Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars after he admitted he kept firearms and ammunition for the alleged drug merchant.
Ishmahil Khan, 38, appeared at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to charges of the possession of firearms and ammunition and prohibited firearms.
Cops arrested Khan at a house in Lentegeur last year after finding four firearms and one revolver, three of which were semi automatic with the serial numbers filed off.
The court heard detectives received information that he kept firearms for Murphy.
Khan was sentenced to 19 years, nine of which were suspended, after pleading guilty, and admitting he was Vet’s gun runner.
The magistrate told Khan she could not tolerate firearms in a gang ridden community where innocent lives are lost.
Meanwhile, Murphy, his sister Glenda Bird, his ex-wife Shafieka Murphy and Dominique Davidson are to appear at the Khayelitsha Priority Crime Court on September 29.
They face charges including money laundering and drug dealing.
