Matric pupils from Rhodes High School in Mowbray ran amok on Wednesday, their last day of school before their final examination.
Videos of pupils damaging school property, slashing car tyres, and hurting fellow pupils in lower grades went viral on social media.
A concerned parent says her Grade 8 daughter was left traumatised and is scared to go back to school.
“These children went on a rampage. They were attacking other pupils, slashed vehicle tyres, they were on the roof,” the upset mother says.
“My daughter told me it was the scariest day of her life.
“I send my child to school to learn, not to endanger her life. My daughter was visibly shaken and the school has not even addressed this issue yet.
“They damaged the school so who pays for that? What happens now with the school fees?”

In another video, filmed from inside a classroom, pupils standing outside can be seen making faces and screaming and then a boy kicks and breaks a large window.
Western Cape Education Department spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, says: “The Grade 12 learners of the school requested to have a “fun day” to end their school career.
“However, some of the learners took this too far and
damage was caused to a few of the windows.
“The school has identified the learners concerned and their parents have been notified.
“The school will meet with each learner’s parents individually. This was caused by a minority of learners and has not been condoned.”
