The Rise Against Hunger relief organisation has fed over 2 million people since the lockdown began in late April.
On Tuesday, 260 families received nutritional meals from the organisation at the Camp Road and 7de laan informal settlements in Strandfontein.
Rise Against Hunger (RAH) in collaboration with Oceana teamed up with the 9 Miles Project to hand out 500 food parcels.
Shanaaz Stoffberg, RAH Brand Manager, says the Coronavirus pandemic has hit the poorest of the poor the hardest.
“This is a forgotten community where people have no income and no support in terms of food security,” she says.
“People received the meal packets with appreciation as many didn’t know where their next meal would come from.
“We are happy to have made a difference in over two million people’s lives.”

Oceana CEO Imraan Soomra applauded the work of Rise Against Hunger and other relief agencies who are assisting communities in distress.
“We recognise the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on livelihoods and communities and we salute the tireless work of relief organisations and volunteers who give so selflessly of their time and energy to assist others,” Soomra said.
He says Oceana has partnered with RAH to also provide 51 000 meals and 4 800 Lucky Star cans for disadvantaged communities.
Oceana has distributed thousands of food parcels and over 45 000 cans of its Lucky Star products across South Africa, including Gift of the Givers. The group’s food parcels can feed a family of five for two weeks.
