FROM Tik Tok sensation to stardom, rapper Ali Josephs is booked and busy after his rap music has been going viral on social media.
The 32-year-old from Vredenburg, real name is Ashwin Josoph, might not sound like traditional rappers but his music has been blowing up on social media with mense singing along or using his sounds in their videos.
He is popular for singing ‘as ek rap dan rap ek rap ek’, ‘die son willie skyn nie’, ‘die rappers se blaaie stink’ and ‘ek is kwaad but ek weet nie vir hoekom nie’.
His many mal lines has gained him thousands of followers, with one clip hitting over 700 000 views.
And these videos and skits are now landing him gigs, getting booked for shows and mense making parodies of his videos.
He said that his passion for music started in primary school as the class clown who would start rapping while the teacher was out.
Ali explains: “Most artists use auto tune but I make those sounds myself or do my own adlibs.
“I have been on social media for years but only started blowing up recently. I have a passion for rapping and would like to give it an opportunity and see how far I come.
“I have been making music on my days off but it is now getting serious with people booking me. I don’t lie in my raps.
“My one sound that went viral of the rappers whose blaaie stink wasn’t a diss track, that is true because when people come to record but their underarms stink.”
Since going viral, Ali has featured on posters and performed in Oudtshoorn, Port Elizabeth amd on the PSA Podcast.
This Easter weekend, Ali was also busy on besig entertaining his fans at gigs.
He said that his raps going viral is just the beginning as he will continue to be the topic for a while.
He adds: “Whenever I post on TikTok there are always ugly comments because people don’t just engage with the video but they look at the background but ek moet aan kap with what I do. The music I put out is funny because I know it will get people to engage and laugh.”
