POLICE have launched an internal investigation after a video surfaced online of an allegedly gesuipte cop captured in Delft being dragged by two officers.
The video shows a man dishevelled in his police uniform, dressed in his blue pants, boots and tactical belt with his gun holster and a white t-shirt being dragged by two police men.
The man who seems to have difficulty walking straight up can be seen with his blue police shirt in his hand as the two officers help him across a small veld while mense look on.
The video was captured on Friday and suggests that the officer is gesuip with the caption “#policeofficer dik gesuip is Vrydag hie' buite” with the popular TikTok trending sound “only in Cape Town will you see such k@k”.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said that they are aware of the video, however conclusions should not be made about what transpired in the video as it is part of an internal investigation by the South African Police Service.
Potelwa reports: “In response to your media enquiry, be informed that the video you are enquiring about was brought to the attention of the SAPS management in the Western Cape.
"It is currently the subject of an internal SAPS investigation. An earnest plea is made that space be afforded to the internal probe and its findings before deductions are made about what transpired during the incident that was captured in the video.”
When the Daily Voice reached out to the Delft Community Police Forum for comment on the video and what transpired, we were informed that they cannot comment on the video.
