Police are investigating murders innie Bontas and Heideveld

Police are investigating three counts of murder as gun violence continues to plague communities across the Cape, after three men between the ages of 23 to 30 were gunned down in gang-related shootings.

Two men were shot and killed in Bonteheuwel and another man was shot and killed in Heideveld with both incidents taking place on Saturday evening. 

Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed that Bishop Lavis police are investigating a double murder following a shooting incident on Saturday 17 May 2025 in Poinsettia Street, Bonteheuwel after a 23 and 30 year old was shot and killed.

Manyana reports: “According to reports, police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident at the mentioned address where upon arrival at the scene they found one male victim laying on the ground with a gunshot wound sustained to his body.

"They were then informed by the members of the public about another body of a man on the other side who also sustained gunshot wounds. The two victims aged between 23 and 30 were declared deceased at the scene by the medical personnel.

"The unknown suspect/s who fled the scene are yet to be arrested. The motive behind the incident is suspected to be gang related."

Manyana said that in a separate incident, Manenberg police opened a murder case for further investigation following a shooting incident also on Saturday at around 8pm in Patricia Court opposite Oliver Court, Heideveld, where a 24-year-old was shot and fatally wounded.

Manyana adds: “According to reports the victim was standing at the mentioned address when the suspects approached him and fired several shots. The victim was declared deceased at the scene by the medical personnel.

The unknown suspects who fled the scene are yet to be arrested. The motive behind the shooting is suspected to be gang related.”

Chairperson of the Cape Flats Safety Forum, Abie Isaacs says: "We call for the deployment of the South African Defence Force as force multiplier to stabilise and normalise effected areas. We also call for probe to set up in dealing with gun violence.
