A BEACON Valley family, including their tenants, are die hel in after their home was flooded with sewage and drain water.
Natasha Dreyer living in Morgenster Road said that she has been experiencing the same issue for 24 years and despite calling on the City of Cape Town to fix the issue at the root, the problem persists.
On Saturday, her home flooded again and by Monday morning the place was still sopnat as nobody had come out to fix it.
A frustrated Natasha says: “My house is next to a canal, so whenever there is flooding my house takes the most of it.
"I have been living in Morgenster for 24 years and this has been going on for 24 years but it was never this bad.
"The last couple of years it has gotten worse and every two to three months there is flooding.
"The sewer drain overflows then it floods my whole property. The sh!t and tissues are floating and we need to wear gumboots because the water is above our ankles.
"When I phoned I was told that the turnaround time is one to three days. Because it happened on the weekend no one could come but it was an emergency."
Natasha said that the inside of her house, yard and the tenants' living space were flooded with vuil water
She adds: “My place reeks of sewer water, it is a health and safety risk. I wish I could sell my house.
"The last time my tiles, kitchen cupboards, doors and skirting were damaged. We had to replace all of that and I had to claim from my insurance and pay the excess fee.
"I had to take off from work waiting for the council to come fix the issue. I was told that it is too much money for the council to fix. But how is that my problem? I am a rates player.
"This is so frustrating. They don’t fix the problem, they put on a plaster but we know it is going to happen again."
She said that the issue was temporarily fixed however she needs to go back to her insurance as her property including tiles, gate and paving has been affected by the acid and left pitch black.
Ward councillor Solomon Philander confirmed that he is aware of the issue and will include Natasha in his emails to the City to explore the possibilities to move the sewer line outside of her property.
"The root cause is that we find so many foreign objects in the sewer line along Swartklip from Lenteguer and that cause the blockage. I do understand her frustration and apologised to her because we did take a bit long to respond."
The City of Cape Town said they are looking into the particulars of this matter.
