A FRAIL oupa living in a council flat in Parkwood won't be sukkelling with a leaky roof this winter after contacting the Daily Voice.
The woeste weer this week forced to Andrew Williams, 46, to call in to complain about his 78-year-old father Phillip's long-neglected home.
He said that the roof started leaking in 2023 and during the winter storms last year it has gotten worse as there has been no help from the City after multiple complaints..
Andrew told the Daily Voice: “We have reported this to the City of Cape Town and the Housing Department and my dad also phones once or twice a week but we were told to wait, now it is pouring down with rain and my dad’s health is not that great.
"Thankfully it is not leaking in the living room area or bedrooms but the kitchen and going into the toilet is affected because I think that is the part of the roofing sheets that blew off."
He said that he wishes to have the matter fixed before the winter rain starts pouring down.
The City of Cape Town said that the City’s Public Housing teams visited the residence on 21 May 2025 to assess the damage.
"[We] have assured the tenants that our teams will be attending to the necessary repairs as soon as possible. The City is in the process of finalising a transversal tender for roofing repairs and the emergency work will commence in due course."
Andrew confirmed and said: "People just came to our house and inspected the sheets and stuff. They told my dad that they are coming back to fix the roof as soon as the rain stops."
