CALLING all actors and actresses and anyone who has a passion for special effects, makeup, script writing or the behind the scenes of filming a production.

Award-winning local actor and filmmaker from Delft, Nic Matthee will be offering free drama classes for young acting enthusiasts at Roosendaal High School, starting from the 28 June 2025 for three months.

Renowned for his action films, practical makeup and effects, as well as sword and gunfight choreography in short films, he aims to infuse the classes with a fresh and exciting creative energy.

Nic is no stranger to the stage and is also a former six-time world dance champion from the 1990s and early 2000s.

He tells the Daily Voice: "I am taking a break from filmmaking, however, I am also offering free drama classes to acting enthusiasts who wish to challenge their skills in front of the camera.

"Young creative individuals recognise the importance of investing in casting agencies, where opportunities may be scarce and financially demanding, particularly regarding acting classes. This remains a crucial stepping stone for those eager to test their boundaries.”

With a portfolio that includes nine short films and a short film series comprising of six episodes, he has garnered 14 awards both nationally and internationally, representing the Cape Flats community and its talent on the global stage.

As the former project manager of the non-profit and community-based film project called Touched By Style Community Arts Projects, he has established Red Moon Productions as a continuation of the previous initiative.

He adds: "Acting presents challenges but also possesses the ability to inspire and provoke thought. The classes will focus on building confidence, fostering teamwork, enhancing communication, and improving conversational skills.

"These classes cultivate the ability to understand others and enhance emotional intelligence."

Matthee plans to expand the project to other schools in the Cape Flats, giving more youngsters the opportunity to learn the craft of film and filmmaking with the intention of producing three short films in 2026.
