FOUR mense were shot, leaving two dead in an attack on a wendy house in the ongoing gang violence in Wesbank.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said that Mfuleni police opened two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder cases following a shooting in Malgas Street, Wesbank on Monday, 26 May 2025 at approximately 7.00pm.
Pojie reports, “Preliminary information reveals that members were dispatched to the crime scene where they discovered the bodies of an 18-year-old man and 20-year-old man in the bedroom and yard of a wendy house respectively.
"They also found a 30-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. They were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
"The circumstances and motive forms part of an ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made yet.”
According to a family member who does not want to be named to protect her identity, the four victims were allegedly innocent.
She claims that the victims were shot by members of the 28s gang as they are allegedly witnessed to a murder.
The vrou says: “A friend of theirs was shot a few months ago and ever since then the 28s have been after them thinking they are going to testify against them, so they threaten the children.
"We as a community are so scared to say something because their leader just gives instruction to shoot.
"The children were sitting in the wendy house when they (gangsters) came in with two guns, entered the gate and just started shooting.
"They shot the two that were sitting outside and the other two that were inside the wendy house. The woman was shot in the stomach and legs but the bullet did not touch her viral organs and the other one who survived was shot in the hand soos hy gekeer het but his brother was killed at the scene.”
Public Relations Officer for the Wesbank Community Policing Forum Mbano Magula also believes that the shooting is gang-related.
He adds: “We are very concerned about the ongoing shootings because the community is in fear but we urge the community to come forward with any information.
"As part of our action plan as the CPF we have taken the initiative to strengthen our partnership between SAPS and Law Enforcement agencies to work together and increase visibility to combat crime."
