Ou falls off back of truck

A DELFT youngster is dead after falling off a moving cooldrink delivery truck, as he and his manskappe allegedly tried to steal gaskoeldranke.

The community has been plagued by laaities hanging off the back of delivery vans and trucks to steal food items.

What is believed to be the latest of these incidents led to the death of Aiden Langenhoven on 28 May.

Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF) public relations officer Francois de Bruin told the Daily Voice that the CPF can confirm the incident that took place at the corner of Voorbrug and Delft Main Roads.

De Bruin says: “Langenhoven attended Roosendal High in Delft and it is believed that there were attempts to take cool drinks off a delivery truck as was and still is unfortunately the case at these hotspots in Delft Main Road where these kids are being used doing the bidding of hardened criminals.

“Neighbourhood watch (NHW), SAPS, the community and CPF are at our wits end and we concede it’s really a problem. However, CPF/SAPS want to salute the NHW who have identified the time slots when these boys operate. We ask motorists to try not to have valuables of any kind in open bakkies where possible.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said circumstances around the incident that occurred around 12 noon where the 20-year-old died is under investigation.

Van Wyk added: “A culpable homicide case was opened for investigation. No arrest as yet.”

Mense on social media said that these laaities knew what they were doing and one day it would catch up to them in some way.

However, Langenhoven’s self-proclaimed girlfriend told mense not to judge if they did not know him.

She wrote on Facebook: “Yeah right, what he did was wrong and yes we all talked to him about it, but no one understood what he was actually going through.

“So please people before judging, try to see if you can find his side of the story out.”
