THE community of Wesbank has been rocked by the deadly shooting of three people at the weekend.
Mfuleni detectives are probing the circumstances surrounding three separate incidents where adult males were killed on Sunday evening.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said that Mfuleni police are investigating three counts of murder.
He said that members of the police first responded to a complaint at about 5.21pm in Uzembe Street where a 21-year-old was fatally wounded.
Swartbooi says: “Upon arrival in Uzumbe Street in Extension 6 they were informed about a male who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital.
“Upon arrival at the medical facility they found the body of a 21 year old man who was declared deceased. “The motive for this attack is still unknown.
“Meanwhile, the police members had to attend to a complaint in Ouplaas Street in Wesbank at about 6:50pm. Upon arrival they found the body of a male aged 30 who sustained gunshot wounds.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. It is alleged that unknown assailants arrived in a white light delivery vehicle, firing numerous gun shots at the victim. The suspects fled the scene...”
Swartbooi says that in an unrelated incident, police members rushed to Better Life informal settlement where they found a 41 year old victim stabbed to death.
He reports: “Upon arrival at around 8.50pm they found the body of a 42-year-old man who sustained a stab wound. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The suspect is yet to be arrested.”
According to Public Relations Officer for the Wesbank Community Police Forum, Mbano Magula, the incidents are all gang related.
Magula adds: “There is currently a gang war happening in Wesbank. We have deployed additional members from SAPS who have been deployed in Wesbank because it is the only area that has an escalated number of shootings.
“We do not have much information at this stage... We urge the community members to come forward with any information that will help SAPS arrests these criminals.”
