PATRIOTIC Alliance leader and South Africa’s Minster of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, believes Jacquen “Boeta” Appollis gaan nog lekker sing agter tralies.
Appollis, alongside sy goose Kelly Smith and their bra Steveno “Steffie” van Rhyn were sentenced to life in prison last week for the kidnapping and trafficking Kelly’s six-year-old daughter Joshlin Smith.
Little Joshlin disappeared on 19 February 2024 and a little more than a year later, her mother en diè se manskappe were found guilty of selling the groen-oog meisie.
McKenzie, who was involved in the search for Joshlin and vocal on social media platforms from the get-go, believes that this story is not yet over. In fact, he is adamant that Joshlin WILL be found and that one of the now-tronkvoëls will sing soos ’n kanarie.
In a Facebook Live video on Sunday, McKenzie said: “One of my best friends sent me an apology letter because we stopped speaking during the Joshlin thing. He told me, how can you blame a woman [Kelly] that’s going through loss? He said ‘how can you be so heartless?’
“Any mother if that’s listening now, if your child is gone and the court asks you to give more information – there’s no mother that would say she doesn’t want to testify.
“There is no mother here that won’t help the court to get information that will help get her child back. Kelly is a dark person, Kelly said ‘ek gaan nie testify nie’...”
McKenzie adds that he can only thank God for blessing his finances to support the search for Joshlin and vows to continue the search.
He also believes that the truth could come out in jail, saying: “There are some things that didn’t come up in court, like when Kelly was coaching Boeta how to lie en sy sê: ‘Gooi ’n traan, you must cry…
“The moment I met Kelly I knew she’s guilty, not because I’m smart, [but] because I spent my whole youth in jail.
“I met the worst of the worst. I know life. I listened to Kelly and I thought this is my suspect… [her] story changed three times in two days…”
He adds: “Prison does something to people, very soon they start confessing. Believe me. I’ve seen people go to jail and say ‘roep die ondersoekbeampte’…
“Die Here ken my hart man, ons gaan daai kind kry. Hulle gaan praat, ek ken die tronk man. Life is nie speletjies nie, die pad is lank. Die waarheid gaan uitkom…
“They [Kelly and Boeta] will never see each other again, that [in court] Boeta is going to sit there and he’s going to tell the truth…”
