THE news of Hanover Street Nightclub closing its doors at the end of the month has sent shock waves across social media.

GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World broke the news on Tuesday.

The statement reads: “The end of an era. After years of unforgettable nights, music that moved us and friendships forged on the dance floor, Hanover Street Nightclub will close its doors on 28 June.

“To everyone who’s been a part of our story, thank you. From legendary parties to quiet moments beneath the lights, it’s been a journey we’ll never forget. Join us for our final nights as we celebrate the end of a legendary chapter.”

The news dat die jol uit is hit fans of the hotspot hard, with almost 900 comments on the Facebook post.

Chevon Jensel Carelse asked: “Now where’s that uncle going to dance now?”

Hayley Richards reminisced: “The way we used to stand in the queue back in the day and walk to the car with shoes in hand!”

Fabian Van Rooyen added: “This was my favourite date night hang out spot with my wife Abbygail Van Rooyen. Was the safest club with the best old school music.”

But operator of Hanover Street Nightclub and KFM radio host Stan Mars said mense will understand soon what is coming, however he cannot divulge much information at this time.

He tells the Daily Voice: “There are exciting and bigger things coming and I mean kwaai stuff coming and once they launch it then you will understand.

“The club has been there for a long time, over 20 years. It has been a bit of an institution and I think most clubs have a shelf life but it is exciting times.

“Once GrandWest reveals more, then everyone will understand. There are exciting things coming.

“It has been a kwaai journey, a jol. But the future is amazing.”

GrandWest added: “We will shortly be announcing a number of exciting new developments to the media.”
