A HEINZ Park mom is fighting for justice after her son’s alleged killer’s case got transferred from Athlone to the Wynberg Regional Court and is calling for witnesses to come forward.
Moeneeb Vardien, 25, from Manenberg is accused of viciously murdering Randall Robain on a Philippi farm on 28 January 2024.
Robain’s body was found in a vullisdrom after being stabbed and set alight.
Vardien yesterday made a brief and first appearance at the Wynberg Regional Court, having already been in the dock at the Athlone Magistrates Court.
Robain’s mother, Magdalene, 62, told the Daily Voice that she did not want the accused to be released on bail, however she was geskok to hear that Vardien had abandoned his bail bid in February.
She explained: “That guy killed my son so violently, he stabbed my son four times, threw paint thinners on him, set him alight and threw him in the vullisdrom. I could not even make out my son’s face. body.
“My son did nothing to him, but he forced my son to take his clothes off to see if he had any [gang] tjappies, stabbed him and burnt him.”
The accused appointed a legal aid representative and the court heard that the matter was postponed to 14 July.
Subsequently, the accused was told that he can expect to plea to the charges and plan for any witnesses to be called. The court further heard that should he be found guilty, he can enter a plea agreement with the state.
Hartseer Magdalene added: “I want to hear how it is going to work and if we will get witnesses for his case, because the tractor driver was a witness because he was with my son.”
