BELLVILLE South police are investigating a case of murder after the body of a man was found at a municipal dumping site.

It is reported that the victim is from Belhar and was stabbed to death as he had multiple stab wounds to his body.

Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed the incident and said that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

It was not confirmed how long the body had been left exposed to the elements after the rain started to fall on Monday.

Manyana explained: “We can confirm that Bellville South police are investigating a murder case for investigation following the discovery of the body of an unknown man on Monday at the municipal refuse site in Bellville South.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation. No arrests have been made.”

Spokesperson for the Bellville South Community Policing Forum, David Cecil, said that it is the first time a body has been found at the dump site in the crime-ridden area.

He added that as CPF they will not comment on stories being spread in crime groups and neighbourhood chat groups.

Cecil explained: “It is the first time we hear of a body that has been dumped there so it is not a regular occurrence and if it was then it would have been reported to our local SAPS.

“We do not know the circumstances surrounding the murder. There are rumours and allegations but as a CPF we prefer not to entertain stories, we prefer to rather get [information] from a reliable and reputable SAPS source.”
