Man and woman killed in gang-related shooting

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a double murder that took place on Thursday evening in which a man and woman were shot and killed while driving.

According to Philippi police, the attack happened while they were driving on Strandfontein Road and they were came under fire.

The cops says the driver lost control of the vehicle and come to a standstill in a ditch around 9.40pm. 

Police claim that the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

It is suspected that the pair are from Manenberg and that the 44-year-old male is a member of the American gang.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie reported the attack and said the suspects are yet to be arrested.

Pojie confirmed: “Philippi SAPS registered a double murder case for further investigation following a shooting incident in Strandfontein Road, Philippi on Thursday, 7 August 2025 at about 21:40 which claimed the lives of a 44-year-old man and his 39-year-old female passenger.

"Philippi SAPS members were dispatched to the scene where they discovered that the deceased have succumbed to gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

"The circumstances surrounding the incident forms part of ongoing investigation.

"The motive is believed to be gang-related. The suspects are still to be identified and arrested."
