THE community of Kraaifontein is reeling in shock after a 21-year-old father-to-be and rugby player from Scottsdene Rugby Club was fatally stabbed during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media for the late Andre Brandon Rhode, known as Brandon, who lost his life when he was attacked by two men.

His aunt Rene Mattysen said that Brandon was at a kuier at the neighbour’s house across from her house when another neighbour came under attack.

When Brandon tried to keer, the attackers stabbed him one skoot in the back which led to his death.

She said: “I am not sure what happened because I was not there but from what I was told is that the other neighbour came to call Brandon because he was assaulted and while he and Brandon were talking the two men who assaulted the neighbour came and stabbed Brandon.

“Apparently the two guys followed the neighbour and came back for him but Brandon tried to keer by talking to them and that was when they stabbed him.

"They came to call me and I put him in the car and rushed him to Kraaifontein Day Hospital where he passed away.

"We are not sure if he was dead on arrival but his cousin felt his pulse and said there is no pulse.

"The incident took place between 1 and 2 am and they stabbed him once in his back.

"His mother is doing OK for now because the house is busy with people coming in and out.”

Rene described Brandon as a very quiet person and not a deurmekaar person. She said that his girlfriend is six months pregnant.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that two suspects have been arrested and charged with the murder of Brandon and are expected to appear in court once charged.

Twigg reported: “Kraaifontein police registered a murder case for investigation following a stabbing incident in Neville Street, Scottsdene, on Saturday, 9 August 2025, where a 21-year-old male was stabbed.

"The victim was taken to a medical facility where he was declared deceased. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

"We can confirm that two adult males were arrested in connection with the murder and will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.”
