Four men escape drive-by with their lives in Eastridge

FOUR men are lucky to be alive after they were hunted down in a high-speed chase on Tuesday morning in Mitchells Plain.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related and possibly linked to a court case heard at court.

The four men aged between 14 and 33 years were travelling in a Toyota Tazz vehicle when they were penned in by unknown gunmen in a VW Polo in Boekenhoudt Street, Eastridge who opened fire on the victims in a drive-by shooting. 

In an attempt to escape the onslaught, the four victims were chased by the suspects who continued to shoot at them as they sped through the streets.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said that Mitchells Plain police are investigating four counts of attempted murder.

Swartbooi explained: “Mitchells plain detectives are hard at work following up leads in a bid to apprehend those responsible for the attempt to kill four males in Boekenhoudt Street, Eastridge in Mitchells Plain when unknown assailants fired numerous gunshots on four occupants of a Toyota Tazz motor vehicle on Tuesday 12 August 2025.

"According to reports the driver of a Toyota Tazz travelled down Katdoring Street in Eastridge, Mitchells Plain at about 10:20 when a VW Polo passed them at high speed. The vehicle stopped, at which stage unknown gunmen approached, firing numerous gunshots at the occupants of the Toyota Tazz. 

"The driver reversed in a bid to flee with the suspects continuing to shoot at them. The four males aged between 14 and 33  escaped the onslaught on their lives and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested.

The motive for this attack is believed to be gang related."

Chairperson of the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum, Norman Jantjies said that the shooting is possibly related to a court case.

He explained: “Our information is that four persons were shot in a motor vehicle [on Tuesday]. None of them were fatally injured. Our information is that this is gang related and that it could possibly be linked to a case heard at the court."
