Cape team needs help to win national robotics title

FOUR youngsters have the honour of representing the Western Cape at the National Olympiad Robotics Championship in Gauteng next month however are appealing for sponsors to make their dreams come true.

The learners from Kuils River and Belhar are preparing for nationals after making history at the regional Future Innovators World Robot Olympiad Competition by securing first place in the junior and senior categories on 9 August.

Robokids coach and director Jillian August said: “Our winning team consists of three learners from Kuils River and one from Belhar, all passionate, hardworking, and determined to use robotics to shape a better future. 

“For these bright young minds, Nationals is not just a competition—it is an opportunity to showcase their innovation, gain exposure to national-level STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) excellence, and inspire other youth in our communities.”

However without the financial support the learners will not be able to attend.

Their expenses are a total of R60 000. 

These include return flights from Cape Town to Johannesburg at R17500, transport (R10 500), accommodation for 11-14 September (R12 000), Food (R5 000) and booth branding (R15 000).

August added: “We are appealing to community members, companies, and organisations who believe in investing in the future of South Africa’s youth.

"Your sponsorship will directly empower our champions to compete on the national stage and keep the Western Cape’s name shining in STEM innovation.”
