Deceased man reunited with family after toilet discovery

LANSDOWNE Community Policing Forum (CPF) and mense have assisted cops with the identification of a male who was found dood in a toilet at a garage in Ottery last month.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk reported that on 25 July around 01:15am an unidentified male in his 60s asked a petrol attendant to use the toilet at the Engen Ferness Motors petrol station in Ottery.

Van Wyk adds: “He was later found deceased in the toilet. No foul play is suspected and an inquest docket was registered at Lansdowne SAPS for investigation. 

“The identity of this male is unknown and the investigation officer would like assistance to identify the body.”

Lansdowne Community Policing Forum (CPF) Naz Karodia told the Daily Voice on Monday that the man has been identified.

Karodia says: “We are pleased to announce that through the media posts shared by myself, the Exco members of the Lansdowne CPF, and our community groups across various social platforms, Lansdowne SAPS were able to reunite the deceased with his family, allowing him to receive a dignified burial.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray that his soul may rest in peace. We also wish to sincerely thank our community for their assistance and support.”

The CPF have further encouraged all community members to come forward with information or reporting of incidents as it does make a real difference.

Karodia adds: “The Lansdowne CPF looks forward to strengthening our partnership with the community as we work together towards a safer environment for all.”
