CAPE crime fighters are outraged following a shooting incident of nog ‘n mens who left the court on Monday, saying the attack was a clear hit.
Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Norman Jantjies told the Daily Voice that they are “quite disturbed” as there is no end to the bloodshed within the community.
This follows after a 32-year-old man was shot at Town Centre, Eastridge at 12:10 on Monday.
The shooting comes days after City of Cape Town Safety and Security chief JP Smith announced that new CCTV cameras were installed in the area.
Jantjies said: “What we know from Monday's incident is that the person was coming from court.
"I think the case was involving maintenance. It was clearly an execution, but we do not know the perpetrators.
“We hope the police will try and use the video footage to try and identify the perpetrators. We also heard that he could be affiliated with one of the gang leaders in Mitchells Plain.”
He added that unfortunately there is no place to hide innie Plain as anyone can become a victim and added that he was surprised that no bystanders in the congested Town Centre were injured.
The CPF further appealed to anyone with any information or video footage to hand it over to the cops to assist with the investigation.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie reported that Mitchells Plain police station are investigating the murder.
Pojie said: “Preliminary information reveals that the deceased and a friend were on their way from the court en route to a shop when two unknown men with masks approached them and one opened fire on the deceased who succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.”
He added that the motive for the attack is gang-related and arrests are yet to be made.
Meanwhile, the DA has called on the national acting police minister Firoz Cachalia to have an urgent meeting with and Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembikile Patekile to craft a plan to stop the killings on the Cape Flats.
DA National Council of Provinces (NCOP) member for security and justice Nicholas Gotsell said the call comes after the Minister’s attempt to tell gangs to “stop it” had no impact.
Gotsell said: “Since Saturday afternoon, Mitchells Plain alone has recorded at least twelve murders, while Kalkfontein saw a mass shooting claiming three lives shortly after the fatal stabbing of a matriculant.
“Beacon Valley and Bishop Lavis also had mass shootings, which resulted in double murders, all of which were gang-related.”
He added that the Minister must explain how national government intends to give effect to the urgent need of policing powers to local and provincial governments who are ready to assist cops to strengthen the fight against crime.
Cops have appealed to anyone with information to contact crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via MySAPS Mobile application anonymously.
