A butcher charged with attempted murder after he allegedly tricked a laaitie into drinking acid returned to court, which heard he no longer has a job.
Nuruddin Tembe, 53, was back innie hof on Wednesday to hear if his bail was to be revoked after he was allegedly spotted breaking his bail conditions by moving goods around Woodlands.
This follows after the accused was granted bail of R1 000, however he was banned from going near the area or his workplace, Mitchell’s Moslem Butchery.
The court previously heard that the information had to be followed up to prove whether in fact he was spotted to determine if his bail would be revoked, however the court heard that he and his employer came to a mutual agreement to terminate his employment.
The Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court ruled that Tembe would remain out on bail.
He faces charges of attempted murder after he allegedly pranked a 17-year-old co-worker into drinking acid from a Sprite bottle on 11 May, which resulted in the victim being admitted to the ICU and put on life support.
Lentegeur Community Policing Forum (CPF) sub-forum chairperson Raafiqah Ganger told the Daily Voice that they are satisfied with the courts' decision and that Tembe would not be returning to the slaghuis.
Ganger said: “The boy has to go to the doctor every second week in order for them to expand his oesophagus, but it is not working. This child is on fluids, he can’t eat solids.
“I commend the justice system at this moment. We as the community commend the justice system for listening to our cry when we as the community stood outside the butchery on 4 August saying we don’t want him back until the case is done."
She added that if Tembe had been allowed to return to his job, he could have intimidated witnesses, leaving the staff fearful.
The case was postponed to 5 November for further investigation.
