FIVE katjies were found with their heads chopped off in Hanover Park leaving the community outraged due to the sickening act of animal cruelty.
Hanover Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) Media Officer Kashiefa Mohammed said that the cats were found in Lansur Road on Tuesday and added that it is a horrible act.
Mohammed said: “Whoever did that, it is animal cruelty and a cruel thing to do to animals. Why would a person chop off an animal's head?
“An animal is only there for your comfort and to cuddle. An animal doesn’t do bad things to you. A cat is just a humble animal.
“Whoever did this cruel act I think justice must be served, because an animal can’t speak.”
She added should the perpetrators be caught that they shouldn’t be fined but serve a prison sentence, stating if they can harm an animal it questions what they can do to humans.
The cats were discovered before a spat of skote klapped on Tuesday evening where three children were shot while playing outside during a gang war.
The kinders were standing in Agulhas Court court when six suspects on foot arrived and opened fire, however they survived the attack after being rushed to hospital.
Mohammed added: “That is a sick person. Hanover Park is already a red zone area with a lot of shootings happening and a gang war 24/7, how can you still be so cruel and chop off five cats heads.”
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA told the Daily Voice that they are aware of the incident and that they are in the process of investigation.
They added: “We welcome any information which can be given anonymously by calling 021 700 4158/9 any time of the day or night or via Whatsapp to 021 700 4140 or email [email protected].”
This is the second gruesome incident involving cat killings on the Cape Flats this year, following the arrest of a man in Freedom Park, Ottery in June.
A joint operation between SAPS and the Cape of Good Hope SPCA saw authorities nab a 29-year-old suspect inside his home.
Authorities received a tip-off after it was alleged that the suspect had killed more than five katjies over a period of a few months by suffocating the animals.
