DEADLY shootings rocked the Cape Flats yesterday as reports of gun violence flooded social media.
Unconfirmed reports came in from Valhalla Park and Kalksteenfontein after shootings in Manenberg, Muizenberg and Bishop Lavis were confirmed.
Two bystanders were shoot in Manenberg, while the body of a 39-year-old was found in Muizenberg and a 46-year-old man was gunned down in Bishop Lavis.
Amid the violent flare-ups, the Daily Voice was in Retreat where three men were shot in a drive-by shooting.
The incident took place in Beethoven Street after 12pm when a Datsun Go drove up to the victims and opened fire.
A 17-year-old male was declared deceased on the scene and two other men in their twenties sustained gunshot wounds but were taken for medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that the motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.
Twigg reported: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Monday, 8 September 2025, at about 12:10, in Beethoven Street, Retreat, where a 17-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and two others in their twenties shot and wounded are under investigation.
"Steenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.
"The 17-year-old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment. According to reports, the victims were standing in front of a residence when a Datsun Go drove up to them and the occupants opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene.
"The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related. Steenberg detectives are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.”
Public Relations Officer for the Steenberg Community Police Forum, Nicola Small said that there has been an increase in gun violence as a result of infighting among gangs.
Nicola explained: “I can't comment on the Beethoven Street shooting. I don't know the circumstances or motive for the attack.
"I can comment that over the weekend there's been a spate of shootings that is alleged to be gang related and as a result of in-fighting. I don't have any other details or information at this time.”
Later in the afternoon before 6pm, reports came in that two people were gunned down in Steenberg in two separate shooting incidents.
