THREE geboude Kaapse ouens have been selected to represent South Africa at the World Natural Bodybuilding Nations Cup (WNBC) in Bordeaux, France in November.
President of the World Natural Bodybuilding South Africa (WNBBSA) Nicholas Pugin told the Daily Voice that the Natural Muscle Classique event, held at Glendale Secondary School in Rocklands Mitchells Plain on 6 September had athletes pumped up.
Pugin said: “The athletes are always excited to be onstage. This is the one place where they can show everyone what they did in the gym, the hours of training, the food prep, etc."
After all the flexing and posing, Kyle van Wyk, Milton Zavale and Benjamin Vunza were named as the top trio.
He further explained that the WNBBSA is affiliated the France-based bodybuilding federation that follows strict anti-doping rules and focuses on clean diets.
Pugin explained: “We have two to three shows per annum in Cape Town and our next stop is Port Elizabeth where we will host another African Champs qualifier. We are also busy with competitions in Johanneburg and Northern Cape.
“We also have world championships where athletes can compete.
"We encourage athletes to compete at various federations also as we don't want to limit athletes."
Turning the focus on the strict regulations in the sport, he added: "They must just know what they suppose to take and not take when it comes to supplements and banned substances we promote drug free sports that's why we had South African Institute for Drug-Free Sports (SAIDS) on Saturday to educate them on the above.”
He added that 26 athletes are expected to compete in the African Champs in Rocklands on 7 March 2026 and thanked various sponsors who made the event possible.
Pugin thanked the National Coloured Congress for sponsoring the trophies and shouted out 100perScent Private Range, Mams Spice, Lieben Carwash, Dr. S Kader, Dr. King and Zainy.
He added: “We are trying to get sponsors onboard to give our athletes what they deserve. That's one of the reasons I started making the trophies you don't get at most shows, these are world class trophies.”
