NO WAY OUT

Ex-gangster gunned down in Overcome Heights after ‘changing his life’

A REFORMED gangster was one of the victims in another deadly shooting in Overcome Heights in Muizenberg on Sunday night.

The informal settlement was rocked by two murders in what police believe to be a gang-related shooting. The two men were shot and killed in Mountain Road around 6.45pm.

This is the same road where a mass shooting took place just three weeks ago, leaving four men between the ages of 20 and 37 dead.

According to a reliable source, who does not want to be mentioned out of fear for their safety, one of the victims on Sunday was a man who had turned his back on the life of crime.

The source said that the 25-year-old was involved in gangsterism but was a changed person. But still there was no way out for him.

The resident told the Daily Voice: “The last time I spoke to him he said, ‘I changed his life’.

“Apparently, he went to the shop when he got shot but I am not sure why they shot the other guy. I don’t really know him but I am familiar with his face.

“This needs to be a wake-up call and mirror for the youth. There is no life in gangsterism.

“Many young men want to change their lives, but they can’t because the life of crime is all they know.

“They join these gangs at a young age because at the start then it is lekker, they can buy what they want.

“But as they get older and want to leave the gang, it becomes difficult because their parents or relatives’ lives are threatened.”

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said that Muizenberg police are investigating two counts of murder.

Swartbooi reported: “The circumstances surrounding this event are still under investigation.

“Muizenberg police responded to a complaint on Sunday 7 September 2025. Upon their arrival in Overcome Heights informal settlement at about 18:45, they found the bodies of two males apart from each other.

“Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unidentified suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is believed to be gang related.

“Muizenberg police are investigating two counts of murder.”
