A 51-year-old was arrested after he stabbed his friend to death after an alleged argument over a flash drive that turned into a violent confrontation in Manenberg.
Police spokesperson Colonel Harry Brickles said that the accused was arrested on 23 September after he fled the scene and the area after seeking refuge in Mitchells Plain.
Brickles reports: “Mitchells Plain SAPS has arrested a 51-year-old male suspect who has been on the run following the fatal stabbing of his friend in Manenberg.
“The incident occurred in Ruimte Road, where it is alleged that a dispute over a flash drive escalated into a violent confrontation.
“According to preliminary reports, the suspect had lost a flash drive in the area, which was later picked up by the victim. It is alleged that the suspect became enraged when the flash drive was not returned promptly, resulting in the victim being fatally stabbed.”
Cops were able to trace the suspect’s location and within a paar minute after receiving a tip-off the suspect was arrested.
The accused made his first court appearance on 25 September. The case was postponed to 1 October and the accused remains in custody.
Brickles appaluded the swift coordination between the Manenberg SAPS Vispol Commander and counterparts in Mitchells Plain.
Meanwhile, another suspect who ran away from his crimes of robbery and murder was arrested a month after the incident.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Jayce Naidoo reported: “It is alleged that he and a friend were busy robbing a delivery vehicle when they were caught redhanded [on 22 September.]
“A patrolling police vehicle noticed suspicious behaviour when approaching the delivery vehicle standing alongside the road.”
He added that police officials stopped, got out of their vehicle and apprehended the two ouens while they were robbing the delivery man of his goods.
One of the boewe, a 24-year-old male, gave cops a false name, but was soon gevang when detectives interviewed them, and identified him as a suspect in a murder.
The man appeared in the Athlone Magistrates Court on 25 September.
