A WELL-KNOWN “kwaaddoener”, known only as Padvark, from Parkwood was gunned down during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Gunshots went off around 4.40am in Blackbird Avenue when the deceased was shot and killed in front of a shop in what police believe to be a gang-related shooting.
According to a resident, the deceased was known for being “a problem” in the community.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that the circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
Swartbooi reported: “Grassy Park police responded to a complaint in the early hours of Tuesday 30 September 2025.
"Upon arrival in Blackbird Avenue, Parkwood at about 4.40am, they found the body of an unidentified man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel.“
"The unknown suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is believed to be gang related. Grassy Park Police are investigating a murder.”
Parkwood community leader Pastor Paul Phillips said that this is the first shooting incident in a while after calm has been restored in the area.
He told the Daily Voice: “I was shocked when I found out about this shooting because this is the first killing in quite a while. We hear sporadic shootings here and there, but that is shots being fired in the air - not murders.
“I think Parkwood has been spared because of years of involvement with youth programmes and trying to put to a stop to gun violence and dealing with gangs and gang leaders. I am saying this very softly but I think it is interventions over the years that is now paying off.
“Parkwood has been quiet during this period with the uprising in gun violence and murders.”
Police are appealing to anyone who can shed light on the circumstances surrounding this incident is kindly requested to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
