Cops and Steenberg residents on lookout for Kia truck ‘involved in killings’

Two killed in Steenberg Gunned down in Choir Street

STEENBERG residents are living in fear, with a 'killer' in a white Kia truck reportedly on the loose in the neighbourhood .

On Monday afternoon around 12.05pm, police responded to an incident in Choir Street where two men, aged 22 and 24, were shot dead and while that scene was still active, two more men aged 35 and 39 were shot and wounded in The Oaks.

According to reports, occupants of a white Kia truck were involved in both shootings.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says that the motive for the shootings is believed to be gang-related.

He confirmed that Steenberg police registered two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Twigg reported: “Steenberg police registered two counts of murder following a shooting incident on Monday afternoon, 3 November 2025, at about 12:05pm, in Choir Street, Steenberg, where two males 22 and 24 were shot and fatally wounded.

"Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.

"Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. According to reports a white Kia truck drove up to the victims and the occupants of the vehicle opened fire on them before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.

“Steenberg police registered two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident on 3 November at 1.45pm at The Oaks, Steenberg, where two males aged 35 and 39 were shot and wounded.  The injured victims were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

"According to reports, a white Kia vehicle and another black car stopped in front of the flat and one occupant got out, ran into the house and fired several shots inside the house. The victims’ were found inside and outside the house. The motive is believed to be gang related.”

Public Relations Officer for the Steenberg Community Police Forum, Nicola Small said it cannot be confirmed if the two shootings are linked.

She said: “It is alleged that this ongoing violence in our precinct is gang-related and more specifically infighting within a certain group. 

A resident who wants to protect his identity said that the situation in Steenberg is getting worse.

The concerned local said: “It is very worrying and upsetting what is happening in the area and it is getting worse.

"These drive-by shootings happen at any time, any where, which is not good because anyone can be affected by it.

"We see visibility but we can only have so much people on the ground because there is shootings in our surrounding areas as well.”
