Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith released a statement on Friday expressing his devastation about the incident.

Smith said: “I am devastated by the loss of a Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety officer in Kensington today.

“Information at this stage is that the 30-year-old officer was chasing a suspect in a shooting incident across a roof. He fell as a result of a scuffle, and lost consciousness.

“Despite the best efforts of EMTs and hospital staff, I was informed a short while ago that the officer had passed away.

“This is a massive loss to the Safety and Security Directorate, and I wish to extend my condolences to his loved ones.

“Words mean very little at a time like this, but the Metro Police Department will provide support from the City’s side, including access to our chaplaincy services. And, while it may be cold comfort, I am informed that two suspects were later arrested.

“We will provide additional information as it becomes available for the moment we are withholding the officer’s name, until his next of kin have been informed.”

Lamb’s heartbroken wife Leveen took to social media to express her emotions on the loss of her husband on Facebook.

She wrote: “Rest in eternal peace my husband. Thank u for showing me what true, unconditional love is.

“I’ll remind Leo each and every day of his wonderful dad. I'll take care of Leo for the both of us. I love u Tyler Lamb.

“I'll carry u with me wherever we go. U'll always have my heart and I'll always, always have yours. Rest now, my love. Rest.

“Tot ons weer ontmoet my liefde. Ek’s ’n stukkend mens, my man. Jy laat my stukkend agter. Ek’s so, so verskriklik lief vir jou.”
