The body of an unidentified homeless woman was found on top of a stationary train after she fell to her death at Cape Town Railway Station.
It is believed that the woman was sleeping on the deck when she rolled and fell on top of the train where she sustained severe head injuries.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that no foul play was suspected.
Van Wyk reported: “This office can confirm that an inquest docket is being investigated at Cape Town Central after the body of an unidentified female, in her late 40s was found on top of a stationary train, parked at Cape Town Railway Station.”
“It is believed that the female, a homeless person, was sleeping on the deck above the train and rolled off onto the top of the train. No foul play is suspected.”
Van Wyk said that the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Shaun Isaacs with telephone number 021 467 8001, is busy establishing the identity of the deceased.
Reports indicated that the deceased was electrocuted but spokesperson for the Western Cape Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, Zinobulali Mihi confirmed that the circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
Mihi explained: “PRASA Western Cape can confirm that an incident took place yesterday, Sunday 16 November 2025 at Cape Town Station in the afternoon, where the body of a female was discovered on top of a train. Emergency services, SAPS and PRASA Protection Services responded to the scene.”
“Preliminary reports from the emergency personnel confirmed that the woman fell from an open space on the roof of the train, not electrocuted and sustained severe head injuries."
