Two men injured in suspected gang hit on Adderley Street

CAPE TOWN CBD was abuzz on Tuesday afternoon after two males were shot in broad daylight in Adderley Street in a suspected gang hit.

The shooting incident which left two victims injured as bystanders at the scene were left in shock.

According to eyewitnesses, the victims, aged 38 and 39, were targeted by a group of armed men.

They opened fire and fled the scene in a panel van as stunned mense gathered around to see the aftermath.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that Cape Town Central police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Tuesday, 18 November at about 1.10pm in Adderley Street.

Twigg reported: “Upon arrival on the scene they found two males 39 and 38 who sustained gunshot wounds.

“The 39-year-old victim who sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder was transported to a medical facility for treatment, while the other victim who sustained a flesh wound received treatment on scene.

“According to reports the victims were approached by two assailants who opened fire on them and fled the scene in a IVECO panel van.”

He added that the motive for the attack is yet to be determined. Two attempted murder cases were registered for investigation.

Ward Councillor Ian McMahon told the Daily Voice that the incident is alleged to be gang related.

McHahon explains: “It appears from early indication, to be gang-related shooting two coloured males shot at. Both are stable.”
