IT HAS been a bloody start to the December holiday season after four lives were claimed by gun violence in the Cape Metropole.

A drive-by shooting in Manenberg left one man dead and another injured on Thursday morning, with police arresting one suspect after responding to the scene.

Hours later, two brothers were fatally shot in Belhar and in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch, an adult male was reportedly gunned down.

Manenberg crime fighters told the Daily Voice that the incident was linked to another flare-up in a turf war between Fancy Boy gang members and Hard Livings.

Manenberg station commander Brigadier Jayce Naidoo said that occupants of a black Hyundai Atos accosted two males standing on the corner of Duinefontein and Turfhall Road.

Nadioo explained: “The occupants of the vehicle open fire on the unsuspecting men.

“Several shots were fired at the men, fatally wounding a 45-year-old male and injuring a 21-year-old male in his lower body.

“As the occupants opened fire on the men, Law Enforcement witnessed the shooting and they opened fire as the vehicle sped away.

“The vehicle was pulled over, in Amazon Way after a short high-speed chase and it was discovered that one occupants suffered a gunshot wound to the back.

“He scaled a fence of a resident trying to get away, he was arrested.”

He added that three occupants fled the scene and the vehicle was reported hijacked in Woodstock.

A murder case and one of attempted murder have been opened for investigation.

Manenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) Public Relations Officer Abdurahman Govind confirmed that the incident was gang-related.

Govind said: “There were apparently two Fancy Boys that were shot and the one other guy was a Hard Livings that was shot. One was taken to hospital, and the car involved was flagged.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident left two manne sustaining gunshot wounds while another was declared deceased.
