A THIRD taxi-related murder was reported this week when a driver was gunned down in Seawinds on Wednesday evening.

A 34-year-old taxi driver was shot and killed by unknown assailants at around 2.40pm on the corner of St William Road and St Patrick Avenue.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that a murder case is being investigated and the motive for the attack is yet to be determined.

Twigg reported: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, at about 2.40pm, on the corner of St Patrick Avenue and St William Road, Seawinds, where a 34-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation. Muizenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim inside a minibus taxi with gunshot wounds to his body.

"The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. A murder case was registered for investigation."

Police are appealing to anyone with any information about this shooting incident to kindly contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.

When Daily Voice contacted the chairpersons for the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta), asking if the driver belonged to their taxi organisation, they both said that it is not their driver and that they are not aware of the incident.

This shooting came just hours after another taxi driver was also gunned down in the Southern Suburbs.

Tributes have been flowing in on social media for Yaseen Kippie, 55, a beloved taxi driver from Bonteheuwel who was shot dead while operating in Lavender Hill on Tuesday.

Yaseen was reportedly working in the area dropping off workers when he was gunned down. He was rushed to a medical facility where he later passed away.

Meanwhile, a man believed to be a taxi guard was stabbed to death on Tuesday morning in the parking area at Delft Mall in Delft.

The incident took place around 11.45am when the man was fatally stabbed in the chest and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Delft police registered a murder case for investigation.
