A NINE-YEAR boy was tragically killed in a hit-and-run after a reckless driver allegedly sped through a three-way stop.

The incident occurred at about 7pm on Monday evening on Melton Road near the intersection of Kleinvlei Weg and Wittebol Road, where the child was left lying in the road following the crash.

A community member who asked not to be named told the Daily Voice that they have been living in the area for about 33 years and said they know the parents of the child.

According to the resident, a white Ford Fiesta came speeding through the intersection and collided with the minor, knocking him into the air before driving over him and speeding off.

They said: “Before that happened he was speeding over the three-way stop and overtook another vehicle and in the speed he couldn’t stop so he knocked the child, drove over him and drove off.

“The intersection at Kleinvlei Weg and Witteboom Road is a three-way stop but people ignore it like crazy.

“There was an accident before, but some serious interventions or measures need to be put here, because this is a testament to how dangerous the situation is.”

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said that cops are investigating the incident.

Gwala reported: “This office confirms that Kleinvlei SAPS detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide, following an incident that occurred at Melton Way, Melton Rose on 22 December 2025 around 7.01pm.

“According to reports, a white Ford fiesta bumped a 9-year-old boy and drove off. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead by medical personnel. No arrest has been made yet, the matter is under investigation.”
