THREE Kraaifontein families are looking for answers after two teens were gunned down and their female pal was shot and wounded while drinking at a friend's house last Tuesday.

The community was rocked by a devastating shooting on 30 December when 19-year-old Shawn Afrikaaner and his friend, known only as Herschell, were killed.

The 18-year-old woman survived to tell the tale after being struck in the leg.

The learner from Scottsdene High School, who wants to protect her identity, said the shooting occurred as they were leaving to go home at around 10pm.

She explained: “We were sitting at a friend’s house drinking and as we were about to leave that was when someone came around the corner and started shooting.

“I could not see the face, everything happened so fast. I ran inside and when I came out that was when I saw Shawn and Herschell lying on the ground.

“I was shot in the leg and was taken to the day hospital. I thought I was going to die that day. The bullet is still stuck in my leg but it will be removed on Tuesday.”

The victim’s mother said that she is grateful that her daughter is alive.

The mom added: “I can only thank God that my daughter survived, but I am heartbroken for the two guys who lost their lives because they are still young.”

The mother of Shawn Afrikaaner, 19, who does not want to be named, said: “When I came home from work on Tuesday, Shawn was sleeping. Someone came to fetch him to go drink. I didn’t even know he left because he will always say when he is leaving.

“Shawn just left. Nog nie lank, nie toe word daar geskiet. We don’t know why the shooting took place.

“We heard the gunshots but we thought it was klappertjies but I said it can’t be klappertjies because it is agter mekaar. Then the friends came saying, ‘Shawn is dood geskiet’.

“Shawn was very quiet, he was not rude. His father is heartbroken and I cannot eat.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Kraaifontein police registered two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

Twigg reported: “The two 19-year-old victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

“The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

Police are appealing to anyone with any information about this shooting incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
