A MITCHELLS Plain mother is thankful to be alive after fighting for her life while her now ex-boyfriend of six months strangled her and threatened to kill her.

Micha Renge, 21, from Westridge and her 20-year-old boyfriend went to chill at a friend’s house in Rocklands on 21 December, not knowing that hours later on that Sunday night she would be fighting for her life on Mnandi beach.

Renge explained: “I told him that I have work on Monday morning so I am not going to overdo it.

“Around 2am, I went to the toilet and when I came out, his friend told me that I should open my eyes because ‘your boyfriend is busy with drugs’.

“When I came out I caught him with a handpyp and saw smoke coming out of his mouth.

“I gave him a dirty look and said we have to go.

“As we were walking home, he started getting aggressive towards me.”

Renge said that this is when her berk started to hit her and dragged her to Mnandi Beach.

She added: “I begged him to stop and asked him what about my child and he said that he will just say he never saw me if they find me dead. That was when I knew he was going to kill me.”

Renge said that he choked her with his bare hands, wrapped his belt around her neck, she passed out, went into a fit, and even wet herself.

She said that when she regained consciousness, she was forced to take off her bloody clothes and put on his clothes before going back to his family’s home.

There she tried signaling to his sister for help but was unsuccessful as her boyfriend would not leave her side, scared that she would tell.

Renge then ran into his mother’s room and showed her the clothing and explained what happened then the boyfriend ran out. His mother then put her in a taxi.

But her ordeal was not yet over.

She added: “When I got to my aunt’s house, I realised I did not have my key and that was when I saw him coming around the corner.”

Renge was then attacked again in her own home until her cousin heard scuffling and saw her signaling for help by the bathroom window where she hid with the cabinet pushed against the door.

She said that she is getting nightmares and is afraid that he will come back to finish the job.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and a case has been opened at Mitchells Plain SAPS.

The suspect will make a second appearance in the Mitchells Plain Regional Court on 22 January on charges of assault to cause grievous bodily harm.
