A HEIDEVELD family has been left shattered after a young father was gunned down during the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Darshane Davids, 20, was killed around 4.30am in Twelve Apostles Street by unknown occupants of a maroon vehicle while speaking to them.
His hartseer father Remo Davids believes the shooters were gangsters who were jealous of his son, who worked as a technician for a security company.
The father explained: “I got the news around 4.30am, after he was shot. He was spoken to by people in a red car and was shot by someone in that car.
“Rumour has it, it’s about jealousy. Those that shot him didn’t like his style and hated on him. Eventually they shot and killed him.
“The family is shattered. I’m broken. I lost my first born, my prince and my best friend.
“He wasn’t married. He has a 20-month-old son and worked as a technician. He had a big heart, he was a people’s person, he liked having a good time among those he loved and trusted.
“He was so loved by many. His friends painted ‘RIP DARSHANE’ on walls in the streets in various locations in our area to show their love for him. That shows a lot about Darshane's character and personality.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Darshane sustained bullet wounds to the face and neck.
Twigg confirmed that Manenberg police are investigating a case of murder.
Twigg reported: “Manenberg police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Thursday, 1 January 2026, at about 5am in Twelve Apostles Street, Heideveld, in which a 20-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded.
“According to reports the victim was speaking to occupants of a maroon vehicle before he was shot. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his face and neck and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“A murder case was registered for investigation.”
Remo added: “My son knew the person or people who shot him, they are gangsters. My son was a father to his baby boy and working for a living.”
