AN EYEWITNESS in a murder case is fighting for his life after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head in a drive-by shooting after he testified in court on Tuesday afternoon in Kleinvlei.
The family of the victim said they just got home from Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court around 4.15pm when a white motor vehicle pulled over in Doring Crescent and fired multiple shots, hitting the 19-year-old man in the head and arm.
He survived the attack and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
The teen’s aunt explained that this is a double blow for the family as she lost her husband a month ago, also to gun violence and claims that the victims are not involved with any gangsterism.
The aunt said: “He just came home from court where he testified in a murder case. He was standing on the corner when he got shot.
“Apparently, the car that they shot him from was at court, so they came specifically for him because he was the only one that was shot.
“I was in the house when they came to call me. He is currently in a coma in the intensive care unit after he was shot in the head and in the arm.
“This is a double tragedy for the family because about a month ago they shot my husband inside the house. They came into the house and shot him dead.
“He was also not involved in any gangsterism. They want to smokkel in the area and the community is against that.”
The mother of the victim said: “We just got home from court, I went to lie down when they came to call me and say that my son was shot.”
