POLICE are investigating a case of murder after a man was fatally shot in the head on the corner of Bharu and Lahy Street in Kraaifontein on Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that an investigation is underway as the motive for the attack is unknown as this stage.
Van Wyk reported: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Wednesday at the corner of Bharu and Lahy Street, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, in which an adult male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation. Kraaifontein police registered a murder case for investigation.
"According to reports SAPS members attended to a complaint of a murder at the mentioned address. On their arrival members found the deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. Suspect unknown at this stage. The motive for this incident is yet to be determined.”
However, Gavin Riddles, Acting Chairperson for the Kraaifontein Community Police Forum said that gun violence is not out of control in the community as gun violence has decreased.
He told the Daily Voice: "Shooting incidents had decreased over this period and we are having Street Engagement Imbizos to strengthen partnership with the community. Gun violence is not out of control as several arrests have been made and firearms confiscated.
"We are in the process of rolling out our Community Safety Plan and will soon have Public Engagement Meetings to address the needs of residents to make Kraaifontein a Safer Haven for everyone.
"Urban and rural safety is a priority for us and we urge the community to work hand in hand with us to reach our objectives. School Safety is also on top of the list with Mobile Community Service Truck that will be introduced and placed at strategic points.
